The waxbills, originally from Africa, were introduced to Hawaii as pets, with escapees now gone feral. I'm thinking that makes them both ex-pats and ex-pets.
So this was a shopping day, checking out the farm markets for fruit and veg for dinner plus craft-type gifts and souvenirs. Parked the car along the road nearby and these waxbills were foraging grass seeds in a vacant lot right beside me. The other shot I'm posting of them is better, but I kind...
Woops! It's 3am already :eek!: Got back to the city late after my Barcelona birding day, then dinner, then downloading pics. Had a great time out at Llobregat Delta, including at least three lifers, two of which were total surprises to me. One of the surprises was a flock of Common Waxbills...
