On Tuesday my brother drove us to Bough Beech. the first time I'd left home for birding since 2019. Most birds were too distant for photography, but as we were leaving I grabbed a few record shots of Rooks in flight from the car window. Low sun turned some feather edges gold. It was the first...

    Autumn? - maintenance?

I've seen other corvids repairing and expanding their nests at all times of the year. Do Rooks do that too? For most birds it would be strange to see them carrying nesting materials in Autumn.

    Mystery solved

I didn't have a suitable Saturday Fun image until I woke up this morning and spotted this Rook feeding on the coconut fat! For days I'd discovered the coconut shells were on the ground and couldn't understand how it was happening. Now I can see, so will have to make sure that top feeder tray...

    In honor of Twosday (1)

Since today is Twosday (22-02-2022, and a Tuesday), I thought I'd post some photos of twosomes. Here's a pair of rooks, taken ... two days ago ;) I've been told that Trondheim can boast of having the northernmost rookeries in the world, and perhaps the northernmost of them all is this one, in...

    First for a while

My most common corvid to the garden is the Jackdaw, with occasional visits by crows. Rooks are a long way behind, so nice to see one descend for a change. Incidentally I've had a couple of Magpies visible from my flat but no Jays as yet! TTTW

    Rook feeding on fat ball.jpeg

One of two Rooks visiting our garden during a period of snowy weather. This one had found a fat ball that had become dislodged from a feeder. I liked the way it had clamped the fat ball with its foot while attacking the ball with its beak.

SF3 - just before he jumped

Another not really funny one, but just to show how I got some boring standing-in-the-snow shots just before that action shot where he jumped ... out of the frame :(
