  1. The dining table

    The dining table

Coal Tits, particularly, are the grab and run feeders. But what they do is to grab a seed from a feeder then take it to what they think is a safe nearby branch, hold it between their toes and peck at it. It was Ann that first pointed this behaviour out to me and I'm still, to this day, not sure...
  2. Look what I got!

    Look what I got!

He seems to have teased out a decent sized piece of peanut, doesn't he. Proudly showing it off to me too LOL.
  3. Someone opened the door

    Someone opened the door

I see there's a break in the mesh on this nut feeder, which I didn't notice when I put some nuts in there. Wondering if it was a Great Spotted Woodpecker, or a Red Squirrel that did it. Anyway, the Coal Tit seems to think he might be able to get away with a bigger nut LOL My eye is improving...
  4. Showed himself at last

    Showed himself at last

A follow up image from yesterday's fun capture. The Blue Tit decided it was no good trying to hide from me after all, and moved round so I could get a better look at him!
  5. I'm sure she can't see me

I'm sure she can't see me

Can you make out what it is.... a beer for the first correct answer LOL. He sure didn't give us much of a view did he!! My eye is less painful today, but rather weepy still. Focusing comes and goes a bit, but seems much clearer today.
  6. New Year's Day

    New Year's Day

My first visit to the feeders this year and the first bird was a Great Tit. The feeders were pretty empty, so it was a good job I went, the birds soon started arriving. Thanks for you good wishes on my eye op. It went well, but is going to take a few days to settle. It's rather sore this...
  7. Mooning (SF)

    Mooning (SF)

A mooning Coal Tit .... or his attempt at it!
  8. Differences

    Differences

I was rather intrigued as to why the lower bird is completely lacking the rufous colouring on his underparts, which is so clearly seen on the other bird.
  9. Drop out SF

    Drop out SF

Just as I clicked one of the tits decided he'd had enough obviously!
  10. Top 'em up please

    Top 'em up please

Looks like the peanuts have taken a bit of a hit. I always take some feed with me but not a great deal as others top up the feeders when they go as well. Seems we might be miscalculating LOL
  11. Barrier

    Barrier

I'd not seen a Long-tailed Tit landing on the old road safety barrier before, and it was rather nice to get one, on its own, out in the open for a change.
  12. Waiting in the wings

    Waiting in the wings

The back view of a Great Tit with a Coal Tit at the side of the stage waiting to put in an appearance.
  13. These are mine

    These are mine

I don't see so many Chaffinch at those feeders, often spotting them in the trees around or on the ground, but they move around so quickly I didn't seem to get many pictures. This one, though, sat nicely for me don't you think.
  14. Heads and Tails

    Heads and Tails

Twenty minutes later and the light round the feeders was completely different. The Long-tailed Tits returned - who can resist taking pictures of them?
  15. A wee splash of red

    A wee splash of red

There are quite a few Robins near the feeders (rarely on them) and they mostly feed on the ground under the broom and on the path. Got this one, against the light, in one of the trees on the opposite side of the road from the feeders, so I was quite pleased at this result. The most I've seen...
  16. I Lied!

    I Lied!

... or fooled you (shame it wasn't April 1st LOL) This is the last picture in that sequence I showed you on Thursday where it looked like the Blue Tit was feeding seemingly without support. But if you look very closely just above his head you will see that he is clinging on to the feeder with...
  17. Supervising

    Supervising

I'm sure that Blue Tit was supervising the Great Tit's feeding moves.
  18. Suspended

    Suspended

A first for me... never seen a Blue Tit feeding in this way before... do you think he's been watching hummingbirds LOL
  19. Taking Possession

    Taking Possession

When I visit those feeders I always take some food with me. Good job I did that day, as the peanuts were empty. It looks as if I should have taken some more, doesn't it. However, this Great Tit seemed pleased enough I think.
  20. A really popular feeder!

    A really popular feeder!

They don't always appear when I go, but a real treat when they do come. Think I caught 5 on the fat balls at that time, but there was so much coming and going I may have missed some!! Delightful, aren't they. And a rather nice Christmas treat too.
  21. Keeping an eye

    Keeping an eye

I think the Great Tit top left was keeping an eye on what the Coal Tit bottom right was up to! I didn't see the Great tit until I was processing the picture. There were birds everywhere that day, not that I managed to get many usable pictures of them though.
  22. Blue in the trees

    Blue in the trees

I might line up one of the other images I took of this guy waiting for a space at the feeders... there was constant activity there with loads of birds flying back and fro, this was the only shot that didn't have a blur in it!!
  23. Loving the nuts

    Loving the nuts

Back at the Craighall feeders for a short visit (it was rather cold standing around)! A Great Tit was the first to come in to check out what I'd offered them.
  24. Long and winding road

    Long and winding road

This is part of the road where the new feeders are. It's the road I used to drive to go to my home up in the glens. Loved it up there. It suffered a few subsidences over the years and eventually the council were able to divert this section slightly to the west on to firmer ground. Nature is...
  25. Queuing up

    Queuing up

This male Chaffinch hopped onto a branch and sat waiting for a chance at a feeder.
