We had a stroke of luck - we sat for a picnic near a tap with a puddle beneath it, and 9 species came to drink! I've put this in Opus.

Back to Australia this morning.

I could not get a photograph of the colourful males.

I was so happy to see these pretty birds. They were actually quite common around Fogg Dam.

These finches are so photogenic I cant help myself

Its wet season at the moment and birds a more difficult to find not to mention light etc. This is an old favorite the males are spectacular but I think the females are also pretty

It's breeding season so the males are bright and beautiful again

The female is flying above the male.

Unfortunately I couldn't get a clear shot of this beautiful little Finch before it shot off into thicker bushes.

I was surprised to see this species around Sentani, Papua. they're restricted to the far-south of the island.
