  1. Courtship feeding

    Courtship feeding

Not behaviour I'd had the luck to photograph before in any species. I always thought it was just a pair bonding ritual, but apparently, in the days leading up to egg laying, the female Blue Tit gets forty percent of her food requirements from these "nuptial gifts". Through window glass. Thank...

    Gate Crasher

It was so pleasing to have Long-tailed Tits, visiting our new Mause feeders. However, this Blue Tit thinks "they're not going to stop me getting fed, however many of them there are!!" Saturday Fun

About time you hang up some more treats, lady!

Blue Tit giving me an impatient look - too adorable to take seriously. But I did make another round of "fat muffins" a week or so later when the first round was truly finished off.
  7. Blue Tit eating Xmas treats

    Blue Tit eating Xmas treats

We hang up three types of Christmas treats for the birds, in addition to the usual three feeders of seeds and one of peanuts. First there are the traditional sheaves of oats, the two types of home-made fat treats, both made by filling something with mixed wild birdseed, pouring in melted coconut...

    Christmas birds - Blue Tit

I've finally reached the end of my 2023 posts. Here are three who visited my feeders (including extra sheaves of oats and home-made fatballs and stuffed coconuts) on Christmas Eve. There were a few other species visiting as well through the winter - the occasional Willow Tit, some Bullfinches...

    Blue Tit, Cyanistes Caeruleus

A common bird, easy to ignore, but none the less rather lovely. I confess to putting out a little seed in the woods. Blue tit's immediately take their prize onto a branch where they set about consuming it, bit by bit.

Not the best image quality, but it's not often I get this species in flight. The bird is carrying a pine kernel. Taken through window glass. Happy New Year, thank you for your comments, and good birding! John

  22. Blue Tits Territorial Fight

    Blue Tits Territorial Fight

These two blue tits landed no more than 5 feet from me in January, fighting over territory, I imagine. They were quite oblivious to my presence, the fight lasted about 2 minutes & was absolutely vicious!

    Acrobatic Blue Tit

Loved watched this little one hanging upside down, eating the buds on one of our birch trees.

    Blue Tit

Spent about 20 minutes, this morning, watching this little beauty flying from tree to tree looking for buds to nibble.
  25. Eurasian (European) Blue Tit

    Eurasian (European) Blue Tit

This was on the big tree right outside my window. Soon the tree will be in full leaf and block out a large part of the view, but at the moment it gives opportunities for photographing birds foraging for insects etc in its leaflets. Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well, and good...
