  3. WOW

    WOW

Thought it was time I showed you a view of our walk around the headland here. We'd now joined another of the trails Wilderness Ocean Walk, or WOW for short!
  4. Lazy bones

    Lazy bones

Then, in the middle of the marsh were two Kangaroos... not sure if these are Western Grey or some other name.
  5. Full stretch

    Full stretch

In the same area of marshland there was a Great Egret, showing just how long his neck really is LOL
  6. On the run

    On the run

We made our way across the headland to a car park where the Lights Beach Trail started. We wandered around the area first finding a Yellow-billed Spoonbill, who didn't seem to want to say hello to us!!
  7. Another mess-up

    Another mess-up

I didn't do too well that day.... messed up a few pictures, of Lifers too. I was rather engrossed in everything else, but became aware of two gulls flying overhead. I knew immediately they were different, so followed them down to the water... the only option there was Pacific Gull, my next...
  8. Photo-bomber

    Photo-bomber

I wasn't actually trying to take a picture of the Australian Pelican, it photo-bombed my attempt to take a picture of a bush fire. Glad we were quite a way away from it, with some water in between!
  9. Lonely tern

    Lonely tern

Er no.... I didn't do clever stuff on my computer to get that squirly pattern in the sand LOL. I spotted a rather lonely Caspian Tern - wonder what he'd said to his friends?
  10. Ever hopeful?

    Ever hopeful?

No sooner had I sat down to give my back a rest an Australian Raven landed on the rail. Guess he was hoping for some food LOL. He was out of luck though, as it was all in the car!!!! Trouble is, he really does have a bit of an evil eye, doesn't he?
  11. Hanging out

    Hanging out

We'd now arrived at the cliffs above Ocean Beach (quite high) and we'd stopped at a lookout point. On the beach, far below was a group of Caspian Terns. It was a bit breezy up there and I think the combination of distance and wind messed up my efforts to focus properly.
  12. Oh do go away!!!

    Oh do go away!!!

We were now working our way towards Ocean Beach, stopping wherever we could and I couldn't resist taking this picture as it was such a nice setting. And I do like Pied Oystercatchers. Think I'll need to find a colourful bird for you tomorrow, as I seem to have shown you so many black and white...
  13. Yellow Eye

    Yellow Eye

In the same area as the oystercatcher was an Australian Pied Cormorant swimming around. That yellow wattle round the eye really stands out, doesn't it.
  14. Catching the shade

    Catching the shade

A bit further along the inlet, in a sheltered part, was a Pied Oystercatcher. Found some nice shade for himself, didn't he.
  15. Odd one out

    Odd one out

After a rather nice lunch at a cafe in the centre of the small town, we set off from Denmark following the coastline of Wilson's Inlet. We saw many birds, but some not in a good position to photograph, unlike this group of Silver Gulls. Can you see the odd one out?
  16. Crossing continents?

    Crossing continents?

After I got the mud off my shoes, we followed on round Wilson's Inlet and then I saw signs to Denmark!!! Where are they taking me? Rather a nice town but we skirted it to go down to the river, getting a super close view of an Australian Pelican floating about in sparkling water!
  17. B&W makes Black and white

    B&W makes Black and white

Alex spotted a Pied Stilt, AKA White-headed Stilt and Australian Stilt beside an island back a little way over to our right and suggested I try and get a bit closer and hide behind a bush to get a picture. Think he thought it was April 1! I set off confidently, using my best field craft, but...
  18. Black and White makes Grey

    Black and White makes Grey

After breakfast we set off in the other direction up the coast. First stop was down to Morley Beach. At first sight it looked devoid of birds, but then you got your eye in and out there were loads and loads of birds *a bit distant) but seemed to be raft after raft of Black Swans... here's a few...

    Hen harrier

Two hen harriers were gliding over the grazing fields in Korsør, Denmark.

    Cycling and birding towards Scandinavia

Hello to all birders ! We are Marine and Gabriel, a french couple biking towards Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Our target is to get to the Varanger peninsula in summer... only cycling ! We would love to get in touch with local birders on our way. If you have any suggestion of unmissable...
  22. Quite obvious

    Quite obvious

Back views can sometimes be a bit confusing, but there can be absolutely no doubt what this bird is. That bill is diagnostic, isn't it. Black mark to anyone who can't nail the ID. No prize if you can;) Couldn't resist holding on to this one for Saturday Fun
  23. Trying it's best

    Trying it's best

We'd now driven round by Lights Beach and got back to Denmark; then, of course, went back to the cafe for refreshments (a nice place that). When we came out though, we were faced with this! The smoke from the bushfire. Really quite scary as it seemed to be coming from the direction of the route...
  24. Loafers

    Loafers

The other side of the wet area where the egret was, were two Kangaroos having an afternoon siesta, though why out in the full sun, I don't know LOL These were the first I'd seen in Western Australia, so most likely these are Western Grey, which I'd not seen before of course.
  25. Long neck

    Long neck

I actually saw a few Life birds from that seat overlooking that beautiful Ocean Beach, but either couldn't get a picture or the birds were too distant to make them worthy of posting. We moved on further round the headland towards Lights Beach, doing a circuit back to Denmark. On the way we...
