Diver - Yellow-billed or Great northern, Denmark 04/04/2024

Hi, I just had this great diver sp. during the morning observation. Personally, I believe it's a Yellow-billed diver, but I would appreciate hearing someone else's opinion Best regards Louis P.

Been trying to photograph this guy for weeks now but his diving and swimming skills have meant that until now he had successfully evaded the camera. Amazing swimmers, the water they can cover is astounding!

I know it's a poor shot but it was a long way away! I assumed it was a Great Northern but when I got home and looked at it there seems to be a lot of light colour above the eye and the beak looks very pale, it also appears to be eating a mussel. Possibly a trick of the light. Any suggestions...

Postcardcv will recognise this one. Priory CP wasn't high on my list of favourite sites until this bird, having dipped a confiding Red-necked Grebe there. It wasn't the dip so much as the smugness of one of the staff there when telling me it had gone that grated. Idiot.

This was a bird I really wanted to see. I grew up within two miles of Danson Park and the day before it turned up - Easter Sunday - I'd driven right past the lake on family commitments. It was Thursday before I could get time off work to see it and I was lucky, since that was its last day.

Probably the most unusual bird I've yet photographed in my adopted home county of Surrey.
