This photo was taken back in September, it just stood still and looked at me. The only time it moved was to catch a Crane Fly (Daddy long Legs).
Shame I couldn't bring it home so it could eat its heart out on all the Crane Flies in my garden.
this black fronted dotterel that seemed to be posing for me was a first for me and I was so determined to get him that I was almost waist deep in water the other side of the river.
I tried several times to see this iconic bird, finally I found it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The Italian name sounds more or less the plover which looks like a dove, that seems reasonably true especially for birds in their post-breeding, delicate plumage.
