One thing I know about water birds is that they find Sunflower Seeds irresistible. I throw a few handfulls onto the water and they come from all over the lake and scoop up as many of the seeds as they can as quickly as they can...Here the Mallards were first on the scene. They were quickly...

This baby duck was the only chick on the lake on Saturday Morning. I am sure that the mother must have had more...but...there are some very big Pike in this lake...and..well...I just hope this little fella makes it to adulthood..:)

The big guy noticed the Mallard was giving chase and he accellerated away as fast as he could..Once an acceptable distance had been made between them the Mallard gave up the chase and came back over to where is mate was waiting...I am sure he had a kind of victory smile on his face..What a...

The courageous little Mallard started to fight back and the big guy was obviously not going to achieve his goal without a fight....They started circling each other for one last battle...

To my _ temporary - relief the little Mallard managed to get himself from beneath the murderous grip of the big guy. He came from under the water, rear end first and managed to take some breaths of air, but that wasnt the end of the battle...

The poor Mallard was struggling and splashing and doing everything he could to escape from the underside of the big guy as he was being held under the surface of the water. The big guy wasnt going to stop until the Mallard was dead...that was for sure...

The bigger duck attacked the Male Mallard for some reason unknown to myself. He pecked, bit and batterred the little guy mercilessly. The Mallard tried to fight back but it seemed to me that he was totally overwhelmed and had no chance. Then, to my amazement, the big guy tried to hold the weary...

Some ducks waiting for something to eat. The water was frozen over and they were depending on people to feed them.

Not sure what these are, likely hybrids.

Not to be outdone by the Drake this pretty young lady posed very nicely in a great bit of morning light.

Something a little diffrent for me , I actually really like these fellas great to watch gregarious characters and full of attitude . I managed to catch a bit of morning light on this handsome fella , I love the rich chestnut colour on his chest.
