A cold day, grim light and a wonderful subject.

I have been photographing two dunlin at Elton recently. They have been a joy. I have had them all but feeding out of my hand. The one in this image roosted about a foot away from my lens. The light was grim and the snow sure helped to lift up the beauty of this bird in its winter plumage.

When I checked my wader shots , I realized this dunlin's bill was deformed. I wonder why. Has anyone got a possible explanation?

Taken on the same morning as my other Dunlin entry I loved the light on the beach and the surfline in the background of this shot.

I was looking for Water Pipits but couldn't get near. Saw this guy comming, so set up. Came so close that I couldn't focus, then flew around me. Didn't have time to change to the D3 so shutter speed a bit slow and a little noisy. Still quite good though as the light was rubbish.

Dunlin on a clear and sunny winters morn in Norfolk, a long cold wait was worth it, for the chance to watch this flock on the beach.

tried to post this pic. on forum thread re lens protection, the lens has cleaning marks on rear element, doesn't seem to affect its preformance
