A typical Bald Eagle sighting this time of year..late in the day, back lit, light going away fast....etc. This eagle was feeding near Puget Sound in western Washington State. Photo by Jeff Larsen

This painting of a bald eagle was inspired by a fishing trip to the Queen Charlotte Strait in BC. Eagles are everywhere there and the coastline is spectacular.
A rather perturbed bald eagle staring eyeball to lens with my Nikon D300s and Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII lens.
image has been cropped and resized, but unfortunately not resampled.
The first eagle went out fishing and came back lucky. She came back to the tree and the other eagle was begging. Every time she stepped closer she would glare and send her back a few steps.
I realize this is not the best quality photo, since I cropped it very heavily, but I thought it was interesting. This Eagle was eating a catfish, but when it flew from one perch to another, it dropped most of its meal!
Wedge-tailed eagles are truly regal birds. This one is a mature adult (plumage darkens with age), surveying the landscape from the top of a sand dune. Sometimes you just get lucky - we were driving along, saw the bird, stuck the camera out the window, three clicks and . . . wow!
Through my monitoring on the net, this species is a regular winter to the southern part of peninsula. This season, I spotted a pair. One of which was sun basking in an open field waiting for planting of rice. Most local birder have picture of this friendly bird, note that one eye appeared defective.
