arrived this morning in Campinas, Brazil for a 10 day business trip. Heavy rains this morning. When it cleared up, I went for a walk and saw this eared dove, completely soaked.
Eared Dove (Zenaida auriculata subsp. hypoleuca) Sexes similar. Puembo Valley, Pinchincha Province, Ecuador. Disturbed Andean Montane Scrub at ca. 2,500 m (8,200 ft) elevation.
Eared Dove (Zenaida auricullata subsp. chrysauchenia) Sexes similar. South Wild, south of Pocon, Mato Grosso, Brazil. Riparian woods and Cerrado adjacent to Pixaim River at ca. 128 m (420 ft) elevation.

I guess this is not the only pigeon that inflates its neck when hooting, but I had never seen in so much details (I guess I just hadn't paid much attention to the Rock Pigeons).
