...oh OK then, it's a Jay for a change. I like the pose and setting, but the reflection on the glass makes the bird look a bit anaemic.
I'm off to watch the garden again, as it's madness today. There's the usual 150+ birds and about 7 Jays, but there's also been least 8 Sparrowhawk attacks. No...
I just deleted my last upload, as it's almost identical to another I've uploaded.
This pic isn't great technically, but I like the behaviour it shows. As I hope you can see; the one at the back was just about to jump on the other one.
Through the window, and shutter much too slow to catch the...
I really will try to upload some different species later, not sure if I'll succeed, but I will try.|=)|
Through the window, and the usual too-slow shutter speed.
I'll stop uploading these when I've covered every possible pose, which might take longer than you think.|=)|
One from this morning; the usual slow shutter - through the window.
...well, it's tail and rump are behind the wall.|=)| I like the expression, as it looks like it's smiling.
I'm making the most of these, as they could stop visiting soon; they have a habit of disappearing for a while, but they always come back. So while I have the opportunity, it'll be mainly...
Considering this was through the window, and hand-held @ 1/25th second shutter, I was quite pleased with the result. It's also a different pose, so I'm uploading it.|=)|
I'll wait until later for my last upload, as one of the female Sparrowhawks had a failed attempt at a kill yesterday. I think...
I wasn't going to upload any more pictures of a Jay for a while; so here's two from 20 minutes ago instead.|=)|
Through the window, and still poor light, so I couldn't use a smaller aperture to get both birds in focus (shutter speed too slow).
Yes, it's another Jay, but I like the expression.|=)| It looked like it was going to fly off, as it spotted me, but it just carried on getting the nuts from the shell.
Through the window, and the usual poor light, so 1/40th second shutter speed.
Bad light today, but I caught this one in the tree this morning. I've now got a backlog of over 20 Jay pictures to upload, and I keep getting more each day. I will try very hard to upload another species for my last picture today (but no promises |=)|)
Through the window as usual.
BTW, the...
I like the expression on this Jay, but unfortunately it was taken through a smeared window. I wasn't up to cleaning the windows, so just tried to find a clear patch (thanks to the Pigeons, there wasn't any "clear" patches).
Poor light and slow shutter hasn't done me any favours with this, but I noticed this behaviour, so wanted to show it.
The Jays (in fact, all of the Corvids) like to rest the monkey nuts against something, in this case an exposed bit of tree root. They hammer or pick at the shell, which doesn't...
Well, I slept for at least 2 hours last night, so I'll try and catch up with pics I've missed later (unless I fall asleep |=)|).
Here's a Jay posing on the pole; through the window, and only 1/40th second shutter, as usual.
Another Jay, to let you know that I'm still alive.|=)| Nothing serious, but I can't do this ATM, I've not slept for 3 nights, so reading/typing and looking at pictures isn't really an option.
Through the window as usual.
I might not be back online today, as I feel like crap, but here's another Jay pose for those of you that aren't sick of them yet|=)|
Through the window, and the slow shutter didn't help, as the bird moved as I took the picture; but it's a different pose.
Just a quick upload, as the Sun is finally shining in the garden. The squabbling between the Jays, that I mentioned, has now escalated. It's now full blown noisy fights. They're fighting in mid-air, and on the ground, and they're much too quick for my camera. Video won't work either, as they're...
Seeing as it's the weekend, and there's less people online, I'm sneaking in another Jay pic from yesterday.|=)|
This one was waiting in the tree for me to throw out more monkey nuts. As soon as the nuts hit the ground it was on the fence waiting for the door to shut.
Through the window, and...
Well, it was a Kestrel, Pair of Tufted Ducks, Chiffchaff, Ring-necked Parakeet, Red Fox, Chaffinch, Sparrow, Starling, or Pigeon, picture. But I couldn't decide, so here's a Jay from this morning instead.|=)|
I've lost count of these now; there's at least 4 different Jays (all in the garden at...
It's starting to brighten up, so I'll be watching the garden for a while, but I'm uploading this first to ask a question.
I've taken a couple of minutes of video, of this Jay getting nuts out of the string of them in shells, but I'm not sure if it's worth uploading. I know most of you don't get...
I've been trying to catch a few of these together, but they don't stay in the same spot for long enough, as they won't tolerate each other. I caught these two yesterday, but the one with the nut repositioned it as I took the picture, so there's a bit of blur.
I'll keep trying to get a larger...
I know the exposure isn't right, but it's the first I've caught jumping. OK, it wasn't really jumping, but it looks like it. I'm running out of different poses now; so, unless I catch one playing the Violin, I'll give the Jays a rest for a while.|=)|
Through the window as usual.
Very frustrating morning so far; dull and wet, but Jays squabbling all over the garden. My camera wouldn't have focused quick enough even in good light, but I might have got lucky with a few pics. I might try and video the action when the light is better.
Anyway, one from yesterday that I...
I caught this in a different pose today, so that's my excuse for uploading another Jay picture.|=)|
I've been watching the Crows, Jays, Magpies, and Squirrels, interacting. They all want the monkey nuts, and they're all just a bit wary of each other. Even the Crows move out of the way of the...
I've been trying to catch the Jays getting the nuts from the strings I hang, but the trees shade the area too much for a fast enough shutter speed. I think I've uploaded pics of this last year, but this is the best I've got so far this year. I'll keep trying though, as there are times when the...
