Another shot of the Magpie posted on 25 March, though if anything, even more "in your face". A touch of the Hitchcock perhaps... Don't have bad dreams folks! see you in the morning. John

  3. Eurasian Magpie

    Eurasian Magpie

Since the tree outside my window was cut back, it has proved a popular perch for several species, including Carrion Crow, Woodpigeon and a Robin recently, as well as Magpies. Although this bird doesn't look too pleased about being expected to pose for photos. Thank you for your comments on my...

    Eurasian (Common) Magpie

On Saturday 20 February, Bill (wonderview) posted a shot of a White-breasted Nuthatch trying to peer under roof shingles, to see if other birds had lodged food items there. I mentioned having seen Carrion Crows and Magpies poking at roof tiles. Here's an example. It's not immediately obvious...

Magpies stashing peanuts ( caught on Camera )

For over half an hour I watched two Magpies taking peanuts out of our neighbours birdbath. Managed to get their photos through our living room window. They were busy burying them in our lawn and our neighbours lawn.
  13. A regular

    A regular

I wouldn't be surprised if I couldn't find a single garden list of all the hundreds I've reported from here that didn't include at least one Magpie. (My mother used to say, "Never use a double negative you don't mean." I think the same goes for triples ;) ) Nevertheless, I don't get many shots...
  14. A first

    A first

Believe or not this is the very first Magpie I've had come for breakfast. These guys are pretty rare round here.... almost twitchable status LOL. I'd seen one in my neighbour's garden at the turn of the year and another in the hills during the summer lockdown, but this one just outside my...

    Eurasian Magpie

I've been calling it "Common Magpie" but although Opus doesn't object to that, it prefers "Eurasian Magpie" as the title for its page on the species. You live and learn! Thank you for your comments on my pictures, stay safe and well, and good birding! John
  21. Hiding in the greenery

    Hiding in the greenery

This young Magpie and a sibling had clearly been told to stay put in the pine tree while Mum was gathering insects on a lawn nearby. The two kids had been testing the boundaries and tiptoeing out onto the lawn around the tree, but when I came by they hurried back to the innermost branches and...

    SF - persistent Magpie 7

Hi folks, sorry I'm not caught up browsing. Long hike yesterday (17 km), overslept this morning, then baking and other chores. Will try to catch up now, but may not be done before tomorrow. Meanwhile ... the Magpie story continues. As you can see from the other two shots for today - the...
