Clearly no longer paying attention to the insects on that field trip ;) In fact, I think he was calling out something about taking a snack break, having discovered that I'd filled the feeders.
Nuthatches, on the other hand, aren't seen in my garden every year, let alone every day. Last Fall I did get a pair of them visiting, but they haven't seen them here for some weeks now.
The pond isn't the only "hot spot" at Ringve. From October through April, there's also a feeder array in a little clearing in the wooded gully, with a viewing gallery at the top of the slope.
Another shot from up at the cabin today. This nutter was taking the classic nutter pose to the extreme, perhaps as a commentary on what's going on in the world these days. I thought it might give some of you a chuckle (and we could all use an extra chuckle in these corona times).
this nutter was hanging upside down on the feeder with a fixed look which they do before flying off; except he didnt fly, he waited until I got the camera from the study....
This Nuthatch popped up all of a sudden on a branch right in front of me. I got this one snap, then he (I think this is a male, with only a small bit of red towards the tail ...?) took off again. But I guess for once one shot was enough - for both of us.
Sorry I'm not caught up browsing. We had...
I think this is the male; hard to tell but Mr and Mrs are on the feeder more than a dozen times a day. Mostly they are upside down invisible from the house but not this time ...
a kitchen window shot; this nuthatch and partner come to the peanuts every day, sometimes but only rarely together. Mostly they are upside-down away from the house; this morning he stopped before take-off.
These guys zip to the feeder then off again, lickedy-split. Yet, somehow in those lightning-fast visits they manage to fill their substantial craws before taking off and can empty even our big drain-pipe feeder in a surprisingly short amount of time ;)
