These guys are getting out of water every once in a while to dry their wings - it is fascinating to watch them diving, and also rock climbing, because they are absolutely amazing in both respects.

These European shags are absolutely fascinating to watch. They are the best divers and as you can see they are pretty good hunters as well!

Quite a few of these around still. It's not often I get chance to see them in flight though.

Here is a young European shag photographed by my daughter Francesca (she's young too...)!

First time I've been out with the camera for a week due to the poor weather, so very pleased to have this juvenile Shag pose for a couple of shots.

    Crawling

handheld; -0.67 EV; 1/800s; f/5.6; ISO 200 When I spotted this bird - peacefully basking in the warm sun - I decided to move a bit closer. I had to crawl on the muddy rocks along the banks of the channel to reach a boulder on which to lay down and shoot ... not much time left though, twenty...

I thought this was a Cormorant until I got a good look at the photo. Not perfect, but another first!
  19. Rule of thirds

    Rule of thirds

tripod; 0.00 EV; 1/320s; f/5.6; ISO 400 I was very fascinated by the quick flights made by this bird, it was like a loaded spring .. the result was a dynamic situation, divided in water, bird, air ... I hope you'll like it

tripod; -0.67 EV; 1/1250s; f/5.6; ISO 400 Nice and amusing birding activity, full of surprises: you have to guess where these birds will emerge and shoot asap ... to be honest, I have collected a huge number of 'just water and nothing else' shots ;)

Don't see too many of these on Hayle, mainly Cormorants. It was also quite comical trying to see it balance on the slippery buoy.

    Anyone seen my false teeth?

This nesting bird was panting to keep cool in the hot sunshine. I was greatly amused by its' expression.
