My only picture of the overwintering Falcated Duck (lifer #404) at Colusa NWR. The brilliant green head is unfortunately not visible in this digiscoped photo, but the unique sickle-shaped tertials are.
I went to the Colusa Wildlife Refuge to find this very rare duck that has been sighted there every year at this time since 2011 which is when I got this photo. Unfortunately I waited too long and the duck moved to another spot out of my view. I'll be watching the ebird alerts to see if it has...
