    As a boy I loved falcons; this bird was one of the first I read about. Finally, I got to see one in the wild. It was watching its surroundings on the top of a dead tree, then took off in the opposite direction. This photo is pretty poor, but I'd been waiting most of my life for it.

    This Merlin perched in a high eucalyptus tree to consume its prey, a White-crowned Sparrow. There was a Mourning Dove perched a few feet away watching this Merlin eat. Hmmm?
