  1. Blackcap nectar feeding

    Blackcap nectar feeding

My first time actually seeing this behaviour. On a cold day when there were probably few insects available.

    Eastern Bluebird (Sialia Sialis)

Female Eastern Bluebird just back from a foraging trip with a mole cricket for some little bluebirds.
  3. Eastern Bluebirds (Sialia sialis)

    Eastern Bluebirds (Sialia sialis)

An Eastern Bluebird Mated Pair. They have a nest going about 40 feet away in a nest box I put up. The female seems quite capable of finding the suet and dried mealworms I put out, but is always willing to take a break when the male flies in with a juicy bug.

    American White Pelican feeding

Watched this bird for about an hour at Lake Balboa in Van Nuys, CA. Plunging its bill repeatedly into the water. When it turned toward me ... Wow!
  12. Red Kite above feeding station

    Red Kite above feeding station

Another shot of a Red Kite circling in anticipation above the feeding station in Dumfries and Galloway. This was taken a few minutes before the food was put out and the feeding frenzy started. Well worth a visit if you are in the area as well as following the Red Kite trail for great views of...

  15. Bullfinch feedings on Rowan berries

    Bullfinch feedings on Rowan berries

Occasional visitor when there are any berries left. Seems to crush the berries while the thrushes and starlings swallow them whole

  17. Coal Tit on peanut feeder

    Coal Tit on peanut feeder

Our Coal Tits seem to prefer feeding from the bottom of the feeder, while Sparrows climb all over it. Also Coat Tits seem to be far more cautious than Sparrows as the Coal Tits are always looking around before and during feeding
  18. Wood Pigeon feeding on Rowan berries

Wood Pigeon feeding on Rowan berries

This Wood Pigeon had finally succeeded in getting at the berries on the Rowan tree in the garden. Not many birds seem to be attracted to these lightly coloured berries apart from the pigeons and starlings. A 50% crop from a full frame shot.
  19. Feeding time

    Feeding time

If you look carefully you should see a rather large fish. Some years ago now, the RSPB staff erected a couple of telegraph poles for just this purpose. Prior to that you couldn't really see where they went to feed ... on a tree somewhere probably. They took to these poles immediately. It...
