    Fieldfare

Fieldfare's, Redwing and Common Starlings are all together feeding in a field next to the house. The field recently had cattle in.
  3. Bejewelled

    Bejewelled

The day the fieldfares cleared out the sargent apples was, obviously, and typically, a rainy one. Otherwise, I just wanted to say that I won't be posting very often the next few months. My surgery was tougher than expected, then a second surgery was needed, and that too was tougher than...
  4. Could you hand me a napkin?

Could you hand me a napkin?

We don't provide napkins at the feeders or shrubs. This fieldfare seems to be looking for me to hand him one from indoors.
  5. The classic bar trick

    The classic bar trick

I got two shots of fieldfares tossing back a little apple, with the apple both mid-beak and mid-air, like a bar show-off catching peanuts. Didn't get any comments on the first of them, but then that one wasn't so sharp. Maybe folks will like this one better.

  10. A sunny moment

    A sunny moment

Many of the garden feeder photos were taken on rainy days. Including this one, but there was a break in the rain for a moment. This was the day a massive flock of fieldfares arrived and emptied the sargent apple shrub just outside the living room window. Another trait the garden feeder photos...

  14. "Sour grapes"

    "Sour grapes"

Just a taster of the fieldfare pics from yesterday. The Norwegian version of the fable has a punch line that works better as a title for this one - hyt henger de og sure er de (high they hang and sour they are). They are sour, but the fieldfares didn't seem to mind. The one on the right here had...

    Winters Coming

Well Peeps, Early kick-off for me today, meeting up with BF's John Finlayson. We were going to Lakenheath Fen looking for Bearded Tits, but because of the very windy conditions, we are off to Lackford Lakes, looking for Kingfishers. Wish us luck, see y'all later.
  16. 1: Uh oh!

    1: Uh oh!

On my way out of the churchyard I heard a familiar commotion from a copse of rohan trees. Yup. Sure enough. The fieldfares were having a field day. Looks like my husband may be too late picking rohans again. Last year he had the flu just the week he ought to have picked them. By the time he was...

    2: There go the rohans

And this wasn't the only fieldfare in the rohan trees. The trees were raucous with them.
  18. 3: What's your problem?

    3: What's your problem?

"There are enough rohanberries for everybody!" Only last year there weren't. Last year the trees looked loaded with them until right after the first frost, right when you're supposed to pick them. Then the biggest flock of waxwings I've ever seen came through and emptied the trees in...
  19. Landed

    Landed

Taken through my office window today. Window not too clean, sky grey, bird ... well, I actually think they're quite pretty, but they're not popular here. They have a reputation for gobbling up garden fruits and berries and then adding insult to injury by [email protected] on the clean clothes out on the...
