These small colourful finches spread themselves along this tree branch next to a beautiful reeded pond area at Morpeth Wetlands.

It seems to me there is less domination and more sharing of the food on rainy day.

This finch was persistently looking into the driver's side window and perching on the mirror of my van for many minutes. In this photo, I was praying hard that the finch would duck down and be completely highlighted by the sun reflecting from the mirror, but sadly he took off right after this...

While standing by the mimosa tree in wait for Hummingbirds, I spotted this female House Finch on top of the tree, acting like a matriarch, so proud of all the little ones that she had hatched this summer.

Believe it or not we have had a few days of sun. When the sun comes out its yard work.

Hard to tell the female and juv housefinches and purple finches apart. I think the key is that purple finches have a distinct whitish "eyebrow". this one has some white around the eye, but not a distinct brow, so I assume a house finch once again ...? If anybody wants to correct me...

This little Juvenile House Finch sat at our birdbath quite a while drinking. I must be hard work learning to fly and finding food for this newbie.

This little house finch seems a lot happier than the cardinal from yesterday.

This morning I had some new birds. This one I think is a female house finch baby. There were four of these and one of the other I posted. I didn't want to scare any away, so I stood in my kitchen and took the pictures looking through my glass door.

For the longest time I kept snapping pictures of this bird up on my favorite dead tree perch. All he kept showing me was his back. Finally, though, he peeked down--I'm presuming to see if I was still trying to get a picture. Little did he realize how patient I can be--lol

Think this guy was trying to make a "point" of how fine his colors were looking.

Hello again. I finally got back, June was a killer month at work nearly 7 days a week for the month. When I got a break I had yard work to do and tried stay away from computers. I missed seeing all the great photos and commenting and I am ready to get back into the swing of things here. I hear...

This is my first House Finch of the season. He seems to be asking if he can stay. I hope that means he'll be around for a while.
