While standing by the mimosa tree in wait for Hummingbirds, I spotted this female House Finch on top of the tree, acting like a matriarch, so proud of all the little ones that she had hatched this summer.
Hard to tell the female and juv housefinches and purple finches apart. I think the key is that purple finches have a distinct whitish "eyebrow". this one has some white around the eye, but not a distinct brow, so I assume a house finch once again ...? If anybody wants to correct me...
This morning I had some new birds. This one I think is a female house finch baby. There were four of these and one of the other I posted. I didn't want to scare any away, so I stood in my kitchen and took the pictures looking through my glass door.
For the longest time I kept snapping pictures of this bird up on my favorite dead tree perch. All he kept showing me was his back. Finally, though, he peeked down--I'm presuming to see if I was still trying to get a picture. Little did he realize how patient I can be--lol
Hello again. I finally got back, June was a killer month at work nearly 7 days a week for the month. When I got a break I had yard work to do and tried stay away from computers. I missed seeing all the great photos and commenting and I am ready to get back into the swing of things here.
