  1. Is that edible?

    Is that edible?

I'm not too sure was the yellow boys were fore, maybe to tie a boat to if you were fishing at that point. Anyway this Mute Swan seemed to be a bit interested in it. Saturday fun
  2. Screen view

    Screen view

A couple of Moorhens were swimming around too, but not quite close enough to get both in the frame. This one wasn't too far away from the car but it meant, unfortunately, that I couldn't get out so had to take this through the windscreen.
  3. Collision course

    Collision course

Then from the opposite direction I spotted a pair of Mute Swans. I wondered if they were on a collision course, but the family changed direction and went into the lilies and reeds on the other side of the loch.
  4. Evening exercise

    Evening exercise

On our way home we called in for a final cuppa at Rescobie Loch, on the outskirts of Forfar. The only thing of interest during that short visit was a Mute Swan family.
  5. I can't be that scary, can I!!?

    I can't be that scary, can I!!?

This Osprey appears to think I'm the most frightening thing he's ever seen!!! Surely not? Another look at the Balgavies Ospreys. Saturday Fun
  6. Back to Ospreys

    Back to Ospreys

Above the swans on the island, the Osprey returned to that treetop with partner still below, having appeared to have finished his meal. A very heavy crop, but I'm quite pleased with the result really. This was so lovely to see after the disappointment at Loch of the Lowes, when the female lost...
  7. Family outing

    Family outing

There's an island not far from the hide which this Mute Swan family seemed to be heading for. Quite well grown cygnets too.
  8. Checking

    Checking

Near the hide at Balgavies is a feeding station. A Coal Tit was checking out that it was safe to go in for a feed.
  9. Two in Silhouette

    Two in Silhouette

A few days later we paid a long overdue visit to Balgavies nature reserve. Osprey breed there but, in August, this was at the very end of the breeding season. I was just taking a picture of one perched on the very top of that tree when it suddenly took flight. It wasn't until later I realised...
  10. Cormorant conundrum

    Cormorant conundrum

Photographed today on Forfar Loch, Scotland, the middle bird is noticeably larger?
  11. Common Moorhen

    Common Moorhen

It's always nice to see these guys swimming across the water especially when they're within reach of my lens LOL. Had to lighten this one quite a bit, but at last got to see where the eye is;) Seems I need to do some work on understanding the settings in bright sun, but not sure when I'll get...
  12. Redwing

    Redwing

On the way home from visiting the lochs, we traveled the back roads looking for winter thrushes and finches. The light was fast fading so getting pictures was not easy. However, I spotted this guy in a low tree and took loads of pics, gradually creeping closer. In most of them he was hidden...
  13. Saturday fun....

    Saturday fun....

.... or try, try and try again I have never managed to get a good picture of a Long-tailed Tit! A little flock of them landed in the tree right in front of the car, so this is through the windscreen, facing sort of southish, into the low sun. At least it's obvious what it is!;)
  14. Too many for one pic

    Too many for one pic

AAP On one of my summer visits to the Murton Reserve I was scoping the far side of the wee loch when a Greylag came through, followed by some goslings.... then more goslings...
  15. How did they get up there?

How did they get up there?

AAP Another oldie from Balgavies. More or less in front of the hide is an island with some trees on it - cormorants like them. I had a weird sighting here one day, when I watched an Osprey fly across the loch heading for the trees. On approach he stretched out his legs and I thought he was...
