A mature female caught in a painted sky, early in the morning. I like the slight effect of wing motion.
Blessed, at so much activity, so near my face, Dan
It appears that most of the mature males are being ran off by the females and juvenile males and females. They're here either at daybreak or dusk, when lighting fights photography.
Blessed, to have been shown the invisible paths of warriors, Dan
A female with no sky at all. Morning glories, cows and pasture. Got my glasses for tomorrow!
Blessed, by the classic HB attractions in this neighborhood, Dan
Another young male with a few gems showing. Good feet and open tail detail blessing. Accurate glasses prescription would help probably, as well.
Blessed, to have been accepted in HB society, Dan
OK, no wings or beak, but how about the back and the back of the tail. I workin' on it! Sorry about the spare tail parts. This was my odd upload night.
Blessed, with joy and thanksgiving, Dan
There was a steady reasonable rain almost all day yesterday. It washed all the lantanas, morning glories, trumpet vines and 4 o'clocks clean of nectar. My back porch was a wild house and I took 229 shots, I kept 134 and deleted almost that many, in just a couple hours.
Blessed, by a relationship...
Nothing improves the accuracy of a backyard hummingbird census than a good rain. I thought it was too dark and cloudy for any good shots. but I was wrong.
blessed, learning something every day, Dan
Yesterday was a great day for hummer photography. Not many mature males, but Rufus, but juveniles everywhere. This female's lovely back shot touched my heart. Backing up into me with a very spread tail
Blessed, to have received the call to study hummingbirds, Dan
More crude fence and morning glories. I still observe females with spider webbed beaks, but not courting. Please observe Dan's drought killed grass. (too immense to water, and dead, it doesn't need cutting)
Blessed, to hear perfect major 7th chords, hummed, Dan
One of the braver males in this flock. Since courting seems over and they don't help with nesting duties, they have to be pretty bored.
Blessed, that I'm the perfect house husband, Dan
Another juvenilile male guarding the morning glories. I've been noticing smaller females I assume to be juveniles, but there seems to be a lot of males, and they're becoming braver and tougher every day.
Blessed, to be allowed all of this, Dan
Young females are so much harder to identify than the males.Their size and lack of pefect feathers I guess, but this is definately boyhood. I am still not certain when the outside tail feathers darken on the young males.
Blessed, by the consistant 1 meter I am allowed between my viewfinder and...
A snazzy male (definately not Rufus) with the blue sky and the tree line. Will I ever tire of this? I seriously doubt it!
Blessed, by the water coming from that building, Dan
I hope this makes up for my sharing of the woes of my friend, Rufus. Please forgive the feeder ring, but like Lisa said, I'll take what I can get. I think that this is the best rear shot of my over 5000. A true study in the back feathers.
Blessed, with thanksgiving, dan
This little guy is a consistent visitor to my back porch and flowers, and seems to hold his own at the feeders. He appears to fly well, and is aggressive as any of them. His sunk in eyes and tore up feathers concern me. Can anyone help me think? I have about 10-12 good pictures of him, and long...
Forgive me please, if this is in bad taste, but I need opinions. I have been noticing this little guy for about a week. I have never noticed a more frazzled or beat up hummer. It's not molting as no other of the 40-50 appear to. So is it old age, a predator or disease?
Blessed, to be allowed to...
A better sky, allowing for much better detail. This is a prime example of an "angry tail." I'm sad that their visit is over half over.
Blessed, to have been revealed how to court these little darlings, Dan
Back in the clouds once again. Evasive military manuevers in action.
Blessed, to have enough hummers that they're more paranoid of each other than me, Dan
