  1. Reed Bunting and Chaffinch

    Reed Bunting and Chaffinch

More feeder action at the Whitley Hide. Such a treat for me to see Reed Buntings so close and wonderful to see so many of them too.
  2. Red-legged Partridge

    Red-legged Partridge

This is a species I see at home... but usually running for cover! I've very few pictures of them at all. This one was tidying up underneath the feeder, so it was a rather shady spot under the trees.
  3. Reed Bunting male

    Reed Bunting male

Another treat for me was to see so many Reed Buntings up close. They'r usually rather distant specks on top of a reed on the far side of a loch LOL. I've never seen them at feeders here, I suppose because I don't know any reserves where they have them!! It's a few years since I got a decent...
  4. Togetherness

    Togetherness

Quite a collection what with Chaffinch and Greenfinch; as well as the Reed Buntings. For once the Greenfinch didn't look too grumpy in this company LOL. A great hide this one, always something going on.
  5. House builder

    House builder

That smelly pool was really quite popular. Next up a Moorhen came in to grab some weed for a nest. Wouldn't like to have been sitting with that as a bottom sheet for weeks LOL.
  6. Sedge Warbler

    Sedge Warbler

We moved along the path a bit more and managed to find the Sedge Warbler that we'd heard singing. I sat down on a bench and got loads of pictures of him (most with his head turned away of course LOL). These were among the best views I've ever had, and certainly the best photo opportunity. I'd...
  7. Little Egret

    Little Egret

We found another Little Egret, who was hunting further back towards the car, in the drainage ditch side of the path. This can't have been the one that flew off, so there were two of them; neither of which we had seen on the way out. .... I mean.... how can you miss two big white blobs?
  8. Little Egret

    Little Egret

This one took me completely by surprise, as I'd not seen one at all up to this time (the only other one I saw was later in the week at Sculthorpe!). Not the best of pictures, sorry, I just wasn't ready for it. I'll get the hang of flight shots one day. We don't get these guys in Scotland... or...
  9. Egyptian Geese

    Egyptian Geese

While I was still looking at the Dabchick, a gentleman asked if we'd seen the Egyptian Geese and pointed out a blob way over in the middle of the field. So this is a really big crop.
  10. Jackdaw antics

    Jackdaw antics

I was ages trying to catch this one in the act. He kept dropping in to grab a peanut and took off again before I could grab a shot - time and again I ended with nothing on the screen. Finally got this one, unfortunately still with a bit of movement round his bill, sorry. This was the last one...
  11. Three wetlanders

    Three wetlanders

Didn't know what to title this, so the above will have to do. The female Goosanders were still around, but I didn't see the male. It was a bonus to suddenly spot the Moorhen coming through. A distant group, so a very big crop again.
  12. Saturday fun

    Saturday fun

..... or There's always one! ..... or Two for the price of one First day out with my new camera and practising flight shots!! Thought I'd try guessing where the Heron was going to go, then click when he got into the frame. Just wasn't expecting a Lapwing to fly up and cover him.
  13. Garganey.... again

    Garganey.... again

I promise... this is the last picture of this handsome Garganey. I just loved him.
  14. Oystercatchers and friends

    Oystercatchers and friends

That first trip to Kinnordy with the new camera was quite memorable for birds too. Apart from the Garganey, Little Ringed Plover, Common Snipe and Jack Snipe were at the reserve. I think I've got them all in this image!! At the front is a Teal, then the Oystercatchers, but behind, right below...
  15. Garganey

    Garganey

Another picture of the male - thought he looked rather regal in this pose.
  16. Garganey

    Garganey

Back to Kinnordy and my new camera. I'd been wondering what a blob was hiding in the reeds at the edge of the island. It seemed to be fast asleep for ages. Suddenly one of the other visitors said "Garganey" and there he was!!! Come out for a swim, later to be joined by his lady...

    Looking for food!

Searching the ground for any signs of food.

  20. I know there is something to eat here somewhere!

I know there is something to eat here somewhere!

Dunnock digging around in the snow to find food.
  21. At least it has stopped snowing!

At least it has stopped snowing!

After more than 3 hours of snow falling lots of birds appeared to come to feed in the garden.
  22. Not more snow!

    Not more snow!

Bullfinch in the snow during a continuous snowfall for more than 3 hours this morning again.
