In spite of the very blustery conditions, this gannet was trying to get some sleep on the rocks. I still don't know how they can doze off when the wind is strong enough to rock them back and forth!
Anyway, it woke up for a few moments, to change perch position, and allowed me some pics of it...
Well it looks like I might not have to raid my old files for very much longer. My new camera is arriving tomorrow and it is sooo exciting!
A big thankyou to everyone who has given me their support. It is greatly appreciated.
The most amazing birds I have ever spent time with are the Gannets on Great Saltee island. Once these birds pair the affection they appear to show to one another is quite touching.
The gannet I was privileged to see up close(ish) decided to change perching locations. Simply by opening its wings, the strong wind pretty much did the rest!
This gannet was taking a break from the strong winds, and was resting on some rocks close to the shore. After a rather slippery descent, risking life and lens, I was rather pleased that the bird posed for me!
