  1. Colourful

    Colourful

A friend from Ken's garden had seemingly come with us (actually there were lots of them LOL). Rainbow Lorikeets I discovered were pretty commonly seen throughout Queensland. You have to love these colourful guys, don't you.
  2. Placid

    Placid

Sweet these little doves, aren't they ... and indeed they are little! The size of our Collared Dove is 3032 cm, giants in comparison to this one at 19 to 21 cm.
  3. Barred but not behind them

    Barred but not behind them

Now it was time to get some practise in with the new Nikon P900 that I'd just purchased from Hans and Judy. For a few sessions, there will be a mix of images from the two cameras. Even though finches aren't generally large, these guys are really tiny and look like little mice running around...
  4. Looking a bit quiet

    Looking a bit quiet

.... though maybe he's just building himself up for a good old giggle. Back in the garden, a Laughing Kookaburra had settled himself on the washing line overlooking the feeding and water bowls. Turned out this was one of his favourite perches.
  5. Hopper

    Hopper

Hans took me on a conducted tour of the property and in the front paddock found a Red-necked Wallaby for me. I was lucky enough to get him on the move.
  6. Alert

    Alert

..... and here was an old friend - a Blue-faced Honeyeater, so they live out here, as well as on the coast! Although I'd seen some before, this was actually my first decent picture of one, so the first to get uploaded to my Gallery
  7. A new black and white

    A new black and white

.... but you can't see much of the white in this picture. Sooo... after a cup of coffee at a Coffee Club, we arrived at Hans and Judy's country house in the Taromeo district of Queensland. As we drove through the gate a flock of White-winged Chough flew across the paddock. But I didn't get a...
  8. A free shower

    A free shower

The Double-barred Finch was having such fun in the water dish, the female Superb Fairywren didn't need to get in, she got wet enough LOL
  9. Back at the figs

    Back at the figs

When we got back home, there was an Australian Figbird in the garden.... don't know where he got that fruit from though, missed that bit LOL
  10. Surely there's an easier way?

    Surely there's an easier way?

Before we set off for the next day's adventure, we noticed the figbirds were back. I was just amazed at his acrobatic feeding method.... quite makes my back hurt to look at him LOL
  11. I got one too

    I got one too

The female Figbird seems equally happy with her find. As you can see there's a fair few berries there, so they were around for a bit. I loved watching them.
  12. Found it!

    Found it!

Doesn't he seem pleased with that fruit! Before setting off that morning, some Figbirds arrived to feast on the fruits at the top of a tree of course! This is the male.
  13. A late visitor

    A late visitor

After we got back I was busy downloading and sorting my pictures from the day, when Ken called me out. A Scaly-breasted Lorikeet had arrived. I managed three quick shots before he went. However, Ken said not to worry, he'd likely come back again. But he didn't, sadly. Unfortunately my images...
  14. Feeder battles

    Feeder battles

A couple of months before I went on holiday I thought I'd better expand my feeders so a friend could help keep them topped up. It seems to have worked as the birds were still around when I got home. Trust the Starlings though... they weren't long finding this new food source and what fights...
  15. Less Colourful

    Less Colourful

But very neat don't you think. Another of the regular characters to visit Ken's garden, in fact I'm sure he was there virtually all the time LOL.
  16. ... and of course...

    ... and of course...

... there have to be parrots in my first uploads, don't there LOL. Another regular visitor to Ken's garden were these rather pretty Rainbow Lorikeets. It was great watching their antics.
  17. Rowdy

    Rowdy

Well..... just returned from the trip of a Lifetime, two wonderful months in Australia, which I'll try my best to talk you through but excuse any errors, especially in these first days recovering from jet lag!! Ken, and his lovely wife Judy met me at Brisbane Airport and looked after me for the...
  18. Feeder battles

    Feeder battles

In early July I put up a feeder outside. It's proved fairly popular. .... especially with the Starlings. They had many, many fights, especially in the early days. Here's a couple of them. Previously they would do this at my window feeder and send it crashing to the ground!
  19. More troublemakers

    More troublemakers

At least 4 of the House Sparrows are newly fledged. But as for the Starlings, some are from the original nests and are now getting some adult plumage, some are from the second batch and there's some newly fledged ones there too. Gawd.... my window does suffer at this time LOL TTTW
  20. Baby at the feeder

    Baby at the feeder

Well he does seem to be getting independent, even though he's still got a very young looking gape! It's lovely to see so many young House Sparrows coming through. TTTW
  21. A vandal

    A vandal

... though behaving just now, he's not come mob-handed LOL What a mess they make of my window and the feeders when they all arrive!!!
  22. This is what you want

    This is what you want

So now go and get your own! Looks like mum is showing the bairn what it is that he needs to find, doesn't it. I think that's one of the pink nibble thingy's, it doesn't look like a grape. The young Blue Tits had fledged and there seems to be still a few around, as I had 4 at the window feeder...
  23. What a piggy

    What a piggy

A female grape thief now... can you see she's got TWO!!! I tried the birds with green grapes, but they didn't seem to like them as much as the red ones! TTTW
  24. Glad he doesn't mind

    Glad he doesn't mind

Sorry about the dirty window; those pesky Starlings make such a mess. This was half an hour after washing the window would you believe!!! My lovely Coal Tit didn't seem to notice, fortunately, as I hadn't seen one for a while. I think they breed somewhere else, only making occasional visits...
  25. Grab and run

    Grab and run

.... which is why there's a lot of movement in this - he grabbed a bit of grape, then ran across the roof.... next pic was half a tail!!! The birds do like their grapes! TTTW
