this is a rare winter visitor in Belgium. I was soaking wet but this was a lifer for me!

One of our winter gulls. We get a small number of what they call "white winged" gulls that come down in to our area during the winter. These gulls breed in the high artic and spend most of their lives far north of us.The Glaucous and the Iceland Gulls both do not have black markings...

This photo was taken at a great distance from the bird, necessitating severe cropping of the image. The resultant noisy (grainy) and unsharp image does not show the bird's features well, but the scene with the bird on the ice flow has a special appeal to me.

Wasn't sure of the ID at the time but it looked sufficiently different to make sure of taking some shots.Luckily it was so close that it filled the frame.

An uncommon but regular winter visitor to NS. Iceland gulls are far more frequent. This one was hanging out at a local dump with many Herring and GBB gulls over the Xmas period.

Despite the bad weather, I had a really nice morning yesterday with Lisa and Paul. We had 64 species, including a Glaucous Gull, a rare bird for Spain. This observation was possible thanks to Rafa Garca and the ubiquitous social networks. Somehow, it feels like the birding passion is steadily...

Glaucous gull at Sea Palling,Norfolk

This Glaucous Gull had decided to watch the cliffs at Alkefjellet, presumably for the time being, for abandoned eggs (too early in the season for young birds). These cliffs (over several km) hold an estimated 100,000 pairs of breeding Brunnich's Guillemot.
