Trying to get a picture showing my rare Goldfinch visitor, I was delighted to get a Coal Tit in flight as well... my first decent image of a flying one.
He did join the goldie on the feeder, but I preferred this arrival image.

The purple patch during the end of September/early October continued.
I couldn't quite make out what this was sitting high in the tree, but knew it was different to my normal birds. The picture revealed all.

This photo was just pushing my 1dx a little bit to see the results with 500f4 and 2x converter Knowing that only the center focus point would operate. The new 1dx2 will use all 61 points at f8 so if the results are better than this, bring it on. Taken at a distance of about 8 meters almost full...
This guy was irritated by the little thing stuck in the top part of his beak. He was so obviously irritated, that I wished I could've helped him.
He also payed almost no attention to me, so I could approach him very close. My favorite encounter so far.
I guess I could crop it better :)
For a couple of days this Goldfinch made repeated visits to the window feeder, so you may get another picture even yet!!;)

This is one of my favourite birds, I find them full of character! This one was feeding off a feeder by the pond near the reserve building at Rainham Marsh RSPB. I think he looks quite inquisitive.
When the Siskin came in a few days before, I was on high alert and sure enough this beautiful Goldfinch arrived.
