A newbie for me, which came quite close to the bank, on the same London lake as the Smew. Well Folks,
We have docked in Gods Country, had a cuppa with my parents, so we are going to the pub for a couple of Shandies with some mates right now. May see you later, if we can get a...
having just had my first sleep without pain this year i awoke from my COT to attack the World of photography and birds, Julie stood me up yesterday (i blame the fog) finished up giving her double vodka and coke away and the special offer 2 meals for a 5 ths Heron ate hers, anyway back to reality...
I managed a nice sequence of shots from the moment the birds in the picture surfaced. It made up for a very cold morning when my fingers got numb with cold and I could not feel the camera controls. I'm afraid I am not very hardy so that blows my unplanned visits to the South Atlantic.
Shot at...
I revisited Clowes Park lake but sadly a lot of the lake was iced over preventing me from getting some of the shots I wanted of these very wary birds. The light was fantastic: and it's not often I can say that.
caught at 1/200 at ISO 320 I wish I had some light. This shot was obtained during one of my crawling efforts since these birds here are very difficult to approach . The bird was disturbed by a passerby which was fortunate since it put the bird right in my path.
Saturday was a frustrating day - difficult light and some nice photogenic birds that stayed too far away for high quality pictures. I spent ages watching this female goosander diving for fish - but she stayed in the one spot just too far away for good pictures.
Finally got this so-so shot when...
The only patch of sunlight to hit the water on this particular pond in the middle of the wood and this Goosander decided to stop have a preen! I don't blame it really. It was here for quite a while grooming itself.
This was a fluke shot, the Goosanders were resting on the bank in long grass, I suprised them when I nealy stepped on them. "It must be the camo is working"
It was nice to see that the Goosanders are starting to move in for the winter. Usually they stay in the middle of the lake and you cant get near them. This bird however was patrolling the shallows so i wandered around until i was in the area and then when he dived sprinted for the nearest willow...
A bit messy shot from messy weather. The only reason I went to photograph is that I hoped it would rain heavily; Cats and dogs would make a beautiful composition with bird.
