It's nice to get close shots of this species. I hope they return again so I can get the male bird which may be an exposure nightmare. So I will be setting up in the dark and hoping they drop in again.
Although these birds are easily spooked I don't think the bird clocked me since I was in a make do hide. There is a path behind me and people walking by spook the birds frequently but I think it helped for this composition. Trouble is I only have a very narrow field of view owing to overhanging...
Several of these guys stayed frustratingly far out in the middle of the loch - loads of blob pix....! This guy was a bit bolder than the others, so able to get closer pic.
Short visit to Hogganfield Loch yesterday. Loads of birds about......my first Goosander (I think that's what it is). Also first for Little Grebe, Gadwall, juvenile Great Crested Grebe.
I had a walk along the river in town the other day. The river was in spate (although there's not been much rain in town (until today that is) there must have been quite a lot in the hills, I'd think).
There's usually several Goosanders around but that day only the one.
