  1. If I'd seen....

    If I'd seen....

..... him coming I could've re-focused!! Blooming photo-bombers! I was following the more distant ones. From my flight shot practise session at Goose Park.
  2. If only....

    If only....

..... flight shots were always this easy!! Back to the day before at Goose Park. Where there's a little restaurant with tables outside overhanging the river. Guess this was a gull deterrent.
  3. A sad note to finish that day

A sad note to finish that day

There were some young Mallards on the beach, with mum in attendance. They came for some bread this young family threw to them. Nothing unusual about that. After they left, it was really distressing to see two slightly older children run down to the beach an on to the island to chase the gulls...
  4. He can't decide....

    He can't decide....

... whether to eat or dust bathe LOL I couldn't resist taking pictures of these sparrows messing in the dust, but as I looked at this one to present to you here, it looks more like he's having a good chew on some seeds.
  5. It would have been

    It would have been

... discourteous not to take this youngster's picture, he settled on a railing right in front of me. In the background, you can see a bit of the old city bridge, which is now pedestrianised and very attractively done too, with some seats and flower boxes dotted along its length.
  6. Quacker

    Quacker

Going on the bill colour this is an eclipse male Mallard. He seems to be a bit excited about something, doesn't he.
  7. Dusty bath

    Dusty bath

There was a bank below the seating platform and I suddenly noticed some movements there. Some House Sparrows had dropped in to have a dust bath, this is a youngster, still holds the remains of the yellow gape.
  8. Learning to fly?

    Learning to fly?

.... LOL it was more me learning how to take flight shots!! However, I think this is a first winter Common Gull, so probably he does still have some lessons to learn. I spent a while amusing myself after lunch taking some flight images, most of which o=have been binned, and a few waiting their...
  9. A feral forager

    A feral forager

This colourful guy was waiting for me when I got back, the light brought our his iridescent plumage so nicely, didn't it.
  10. Youngster

    Youngster

Just loafing A juvenile Common Gull was the last before I went across the road for lunch. And oh boy, what a lovely lunch I had at a little cafe over the road called Baklandet Skydsstation (don't know what it means though I'm sure Ann may have told me LOL). They lay on a buffet, one price and...
  11. I get all excited....

    I get all excited....

.... when I see a Hoodie, quite forgetting they're so common in Norway. I have to go across to the West Coast of Scotland to find them. So here's another one for you, picking away on the shingle.
  12. Back to back

    Back to back

Now I was back at Goose Park, where I had a couple of hours to fill waiting for Ann who was off on an errand the other side of town. Really no hardship as there were a few birds to watch and lunchtime was looming. First were these two Jackdaws pecking around on the shingle beach.
  13. Flight practise

    Flight practise

.... Mine, not their's LOL Three Common Gulls came flying upstream and I took a series of shots of them, this was the best though, with just the two left. Whites are a bit blown I think in the strong sunshine.
  14. Come on in.....

    Come on in.....

.... the water's lovely. While most of the gulls appeared to be Common, I did spot this Black-headed enjoying a bathe. Ann kindly explained why it's called Goose Park.... apparently there used to be a restaurant there called The Goose (appears to be "Gsen" in Norwegian).
  15. Changing

    Changing

This eclipse Mallard seems to be developing his fine breeding plumage now. Just wee bits of his pretty green head starting to show through.
  16. Teenagers have trouble rising in the morning

Teenagers have trouble rising in the morning

There were many gulls around Goose Park the majority being Common Gulls. This is a juvenile who seemed to be reluctant to get up LOL
  17. Guess they're everywhere!

    Guess they're everywhere!

.... except I really don't see many (on the ground anyway) here at home. The next day we walked down (notice the down please) into town (as I'd have to do it unaccompanied in a few days so was shown the way). I left Ann to go and make her calls in the various shops and went to the river, an...
