On the left are two turnstones on the beach, the tattler on the shoreline and two grey plovers and two godwits in the water. On the right behind the three dunlins and the two other turnstones are two great knots and two more godwits.

took a picture of this group of waders that flew off as the tide came in. Apart from the great knots, there are bar-tailed godwits, dunlins, one red knot, one ruddy turnstone, three grey plovers and one terek sandpiper.
A number of different species intermingled with the Bar-tailed Godwits. A few starting to colour up ready to make the journey back north for breeding .

In addition to the wonderful endemics of Amami Oshima, they also have outstanding shorebirds, especially during migration season. We saw about 15 species in just over a hour. The area just north of the airport was amazing. Not huge in terms of numbers, but great diversity and close views.
