A very co-operative bird which allowed me to zoom right in on his head detail! They arrived in this area within the last few days.

It's been a good spring for this species on the Costa Blanca, more seen near coastal areas than usual.

Hey everyone, sorry for not posting for a while, very busy here in sunny Portugal. I was very pleased indeed to get a capture of this lovely cuckoo today. Heard the weird calls and tracked to tree in my car!

Great Spotted Cuckoo adult

To my knowledge this is an adult Great Spotted Cuckoo. This morning on the pecan tree in our garden

If you look carefully you will see a pair of Great Spotted Cuckoos mating in the dense shade of a large bush. This was witnessed by several observers who were surprised to see these birds mate three times in the course of twenty minutes. We all felt like voyeurs.

A 1st winter bird - obviously a few are now wintering in Portugal.

The purple background is caused by a field of Lavender. This one was shot in Spain, in the Extremadura during a very windy and rainy day.
