great tit

  1. Skl!

    Skl!

That day must have been just above freezing. Some of the snow and ice on the crabapple shrub melted into water droplets on the remaining berries, which this Great Tit then turned into a drinking fountain.
  2. Half hidden

    Half hidden

I spotted this Great Tit in the woods, trying to hide from me, he just popped his head out far enough for me to get a shot at it. TTTW The snow has virtually all gone this morning, just some of the deeper lying patches. For once we have clear blue skies and bright sunshine!!! Roll on...

  4. A first for me.....

    A first for me.....

.... to get these three species together at a feeder. Don't remember ever seeing that before. OK maybe not the best technically but there was an awful lot of quick movements, with constant comings and goings at the feeding station at Loch of the Lowes. TTTW
  5. Pretty bokeh

    Pretty bokeh

LOL couldn't resist that title, as it didn't occur in all the similar pictures and I don't know how it happens (something technical no doubt!!) The next visitor I spotted at the feeders was this Great Tit.... not a species I see much of when I'm at home. TTTW

The suet cone was great for photos for a few days ... while we had sunshine, and before the magpies ate all the suet
  12. Enough for both of us

    Enough for both of us

The suet cone was great for photos for a few days ... while we had sunshine, and before the magpies ate all the suet. This was after it had hung there for just 24 hours, and already you can tell there's a lot been eaten.

    Great tit

A bit of colour on a grey, rainy day.
  15. One more shot in the dark

One more shot in the dark

Possibly my best one from that day
  16. Autumnal

    Autumnal

When the sun was bright on the feeder area, I tried some different f-stop settings. Some blacked out the background, others gave me this autumnal bokeh.

Then I found that I could stand quite close to the feeders if I stood by the woodpile at the shed corner. The birds are getting quite bold about our being around there, so they didn't seem to mind.

  19. Walnut tit

    Walnut tit

This guy flew in clumsily in the bush carrying this walnut shell. I don't know what he thought to use it for, no nut inside and was very curious. But he just flitted a bit around, then dropped it on the ground and flew away.

    Great Tit & Crane Fly

Walking the canal a while ago, and came upon this guy, presumably gathering food for the youngsters.

The series I started on yesterday and will be posting from for a week or so is from the day I discovered that some birding friends had hung up a slew of feeders in the back woods of the botanical garden. It was also a sunny day, and not too cold or windy either, so one of my better days in terms...

    Jailbird

I didn't post any fun-shots for Saturday, so here come three slightly silly ones for Sunday.

    Great tit with sunflower seed

We've recently opened a 'pick your own' section of our back garden :-)
  25. Normal-coloured

    Normal-coloured

Only the one Great Tit was beige rather than yellow-breasted. This one was among the normal-coloured ones.
