This roadrunner was hanging around the Death Valley visitor's center. We was standing on the lawn in the shade of abush, with the sprinkler showering him. This is just a slightly blurry action shot.

    Leapin' Roadrunner

The Greater Roadrunner, Geococcyx californianus, can fly but usually doesn't. Here it is leaping from the top of the post to the ground from where it ran off as fast as a human. This photo was first posted to BF Gallery on 07-18-05. The photo was taken on 07-17-05 in Pamo Valley, San Diego...

    Greater Roadrunner

15 years ago, this was one of my top target birds for a visit to California, just because of the way it looked. It is still a sweet experience to see one of these ...

The eye of the Greater Roadrunner fascinates me. I was using my 1.4X TC today so I got a pretty good close-up of it in this photo.

For years I've been trying to get a decent photo of the elusive Roadrunner. I was amazed to spot this bird on a post along Pamo Valley Rd and that it posed there for me for a very long time. I was so close to it that I had to back up my car to fit the bird into the frame.

This Roadrunner was fittingly about 3 feet off the road shoulder, making for a good photo opportunity

    Roadrunner on the Run

The Desert Botanical Garden is a great spot for birds. Not many flowers in bloom at this time of year, but many birds active in the mid-day heat. We saw ladder-backed woodies, cardinals, gambel's quail, curve billed thrashers, inca doves, abert's towhee and more.

Meep! Meep! It slowed down long enough to say cheese for the camera! :)

A branch in the way, but beggars can't be choosers. I love the red, white and blue behind the eye. He also cooed while I was watching him. A very dove-like call. Neat to watch!

Out the passenger side car window. First time I ever saw a Road Runner too!
