green woodpecker

this is one of a local family that have been giving me the run around lately, I finally jammed in on it today.

This little fellow was released unharmed after being ringed .

A Green Woodpecker searching for ants amongst the rabbit burrows and ragwort. I had great fun getting this shot as I had to hold back the head high reeds which were blowing about in the wind. Ron

A friend told me about a pair of green woodpeckers in her garden. I went to look at them. This is one of the shots I took.

I've just come back from a two-days trip across the dutch Delta. Along with the regular high numbers of geese, curlews &C I found this much less obvious green WP feeding on the polder. Unfortunately the light was always very poor (as you can see...).

Couldn't believe how close I could get to a pr of these, normally they fly at the1st sign of my camera, it was only a fence that stopped me from trying to get even closer.

I looked out of the bedroom window yesterday and I was very surprised to see this welcome visitor in my neighbour's apple tree. Considering that the only remaining fruit were 3 very rotten apples, he must have been very hungry. It was great to see him as I have not been out bird watching...
