    Finchfight detail (also for Mags)

"Outta my way!" The finches may flock together in winter, but they do seem a bit irritable about it - and that "referee" on the branch below isn't helping much either. Perhaps now that the terrible winds we've been having have died down and other birds are back in my garden...

    Proud to be a greenfinch

Got a call on my cell phone from daughter. They were headed out to shop and would be near a little nature reserve along the river. Did I want to try there? I was game, so I walked back up the road, met them at the corner and hopped in. Not much to see in the nature preserve, as it turned out...

Those waxwings better have left some for me!

Grumpy Mr. Greenfinch. Never satisfied, it would appear. But the waxwings left him plenty. Off to town for some Xmas shopping. Then back to browse BF later.

    A glimpse of sunshine

We've had three very rainy days, but in between showers there were glimpses of sun. And as of this afternoon the sun is back for a longer visit. So maybe a new birding hike this weekend. But meanwhile, here's another recent one from the feeder area.
  25. Caught in the act

    Caught in the act

Haven't seen any of the usual berry thieves - the flocks of waxwings or fieldfares that can clean out a cherry tree in a matter of minutes, not to mention this little apple shrub. I think they may be waiting for the berries to be sweeter, which they will be after a night frost converts starches...
