I seem to have caught this greenfinch at just the right angle for that "grumpy" beak to appear to be almost smiling. Or maybe this is the reincarnation of Mona Lisa.
I'm back from the coast. Been off-line for 2 days. Catch-up may be slow. Meanwhile, before it completely clouded over this morning, here are some familiar garden friends I came home to.
Yet another sign of the seasons changing. I don't get many greenfinches in my garden in summer. A few days ago I started seeing one or two. Today there were six at the feeder all at once. I wonder if maybe the greenfinches will snap up the little apple berries this year, or if the waxwings or...
Yes, you may. You only had to ask politely.
And isn't it funny how even old, rusty machine parts leaned up against a woodshed can make a photogenic setting? While waiting to recycle, we can repurpose. |=)|
There's a birch tree just in front of the pine, making for a combined dense cover spot for scoping out the feeder and pecking open seeds. At this time of the year, with the leaves turning yellow, very good cover indeed for this greenfinch.
Another taken elsewhere than on the feeders. This juv greenfinch was quite nervous about my presence, in spite of all the smaller birds flitting back and forth obviously unconcerned. Here he's trying to hide behind the corner of the woodshed, perched on a stack of fenceposts, trying to build up...
The greenfinches have started coming back to our feeders. For now they're rather shy, though, hunkering down at the far side of the apple shrub but for forays to the feeder where they can be quite persistent - but that's not the most photogenic setting. Oh well. They'll have to pose better as...
The following day my friend had asked me to be ready at 6.30 am:eek!: as he'd the day off and wanted to go to the Eden Estuary.
Shame the tide was out, but we still had some nice sightings.
There's feeders visible from the windows on both sides of the hide and I caught this Greenfinch paying a...
Well that's what this Greenfinch might be saying, it's just the uncertain look on it's face!
My last post for this week and perhaps for several days. All being well we will decamp to France next week but I will get back on line as soon as we're settled in.
Thanks as always for your kind...
Well Peeps,
I spent most of yesterday out in the field, exploring in and around Wroxham. I was pleasantly surprised to find some small wooded areas, alongside the river. It looks like it could be a good place, so I will be walking around there again on our future visits here.
