It is a swimming wader with a very similar appearance to the Red-necked phalarope, but slightly larger and with a shorter and thicker bill than this one.

Tried to get an image of summer plumage Grey Phalarope in Iceland this year but failed,will have to settle for this local winter plumage bird until next year!.
