Marsh harrier atack sequence (beware, contains a wounded bird!)

A marsh harrier grabbed suddenly a black-headed gull amongst a large flock and held it. Suddenly was attacked from above by another marsh harrier who forced her to release the prey (these are the three photos I've uploaded). The gull, although evidently wounded and unable to fly, defended...

    A long way from home

I believe this is a Herring gull. This is a first for me. The legs were pink, though they don't show up in the picture and it was larger than the Ring-billed gulls it was with. I understand that we don't get these very often, this far inland. It just occurred to me, that I may have been...

Bring home some chicken for dinner, please!

I think it's kind of ironic to watch a bird eating a bird, but that's nature for you! At least it's not a bucket of chicken! LOL!
  8. The "Big Gulp"

  10. Ring-billed gull on Lake Erie

    Ring-billed gull on Lake Erie

Unexpected find? Not uncommon on Lake Erie in the summer, but I don't know one gull from another very well yet and seem to have captured one that isn't a Walmart parking lot special.

    Juvenil European Herring Gull

This gull I saw this afternoon along the Western Scheldt. Rectification by Cornelis dd 17-02-2015: In the ID forum this gull is identified as the European Herring Gull, not the Great Black-Backed Gull. So the title of the photo and the Scientific Name are both edited. I'am sorry for the confusion.

  25. Ring-Billed Gull

    Ring-Billed Gull

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 5m. The weather gave some really odd lighting conditions, but this gull was amazingly tolerant of people getting close. He looks all stompy and mean, doesn't he?
