How to distinguish juvenile gulls? - Netherlands

Hi all, A novice birder here. I'm getting better at identifying gulls but still struggling with distinguishing the juveniles. Any tips or ticks to recommend? For reference, the adult gulls I have seen here are black-headed, little, common, herring, yellow-legged, and greater and lesser...

    Immature gull ID, England

I am continually baffled by immature large gulls that were all known as Herring Gulls when I was learning my birds many decades ago. This one doesn't look like a straightforward argenteus to me, but I'm having trouble placing it. Perhaps some hybrid combination? When I first saw it I thought I...

Yellow-legged gulls, Nottinghamshire, UK, Aug 2021

Hi all, I'm organising some old photos. These are from 15th August 2021 at Langford Lowfields (Phase 3). There were three YLGs reported to be present at the time, and I think the first two photos probably show three YLGs, one great black-backed, and one lesser black-backed. The third photo...

    Little or Black headed?

Good morning all. Up visiting the folks at the weekend and spotted these along the shore next to Fort George, Ardersier. It's only now editing the photos I wondered are they Little or Black Headed gulls, adult and youngster? I notice the two younger birds have yellow on the beaks. Thanks all.

Recommended camera for HAWKE ENDURANCE ED 85mm

Hi, I currently digiscope using my Google pix phone with a Hawke endurance 85mm scope with zoom lens. I watch and photograph gulls at some distance and it's only good enough for record shots really. Ring codes are usually blurred at this distance. I would like to give a camera a try. I don't...

Bonaparte's Gulls in Pine Point, Maine, USA

I know they're not that rare but if anyone living near Maine is interested I spotted at least 12 Bonaparte's Gulls around 8:30 at Pine Point Beach, Maine. This was about a week or so ago, so I'm not sure if they're gone now, but if you live close to that beach and are interested I recommend...
