This afternoon I saw this Harrier (Waterland, Ransdorp, near the North of Amsterdam and IJsselmeer). A juvenile I think. Unfortunately it was extremely far off and I only managed these blurry images.
Hen Harrier would be by far the most likely. Although not possible to really count, I seem to...
Backlit by the sun, this northern harrier was in the classic hunting stance in flight. This is often how you see harriers - flying low over the grasses, looking down, then suddenly plunging into the grasses and coming up with its prey - anything from a rabbit to a rat to a moorhen.
I'm hoping for ID of these harriers (probably Hen or Marsh), encountered today (20.01.2021) at Lauwersmeer.
There were two harriers (possibly a pair) and I'm not sure whether the first photo shows the same bird as the other 3 photos.
Thanks!
