Still with my winter holiday. This Hawfinch was a regular visitor to the garden feeders.
Hand held with my little 4500 through a window - definitely think I'm looking for a superzoom for such occasions, judging by the stuff that some of you churn out with them.

In the Netherlands we call the Hawfinch "Apple Finch". I never knew why, untill I took this shot this morning ;-). Something different than the usual bird on a stick.

Yesterday I felt like kid in a toy store: I was in the fortunate position to spend a morning on a location with a.o. a few Hawfinch. A rather shy species, and very high on my most-wanted list. This pic is uncropped. Hope you like it!
This is the first one I've seen in the wild and was definitely worth the early start. Strange looking, but striking, and their beaks are both large and powerful. Made light work of the peanuts on offer.
