This poor kid was chased for 250+m by a handful of rather ornery crows. I actually saw one of the crows wing-bump the hawk. The hawk landed on this power pole and sulked for 2+ hours once the crows gave-up.
This is one of the three hawks that were born in our farm. One week after this picture (she was 8 weeks old), departed with her sister and brother, as well as their parentes, out of our farm.
First time ever they nested with us, but very often we spotted this species winter time.

I spotted this Hawk while driving on a small narrow road in the countryside. Photo taken from inside my car, stopping in the middle of the road incurring disapproving looks from drivers who were stuck behind me.
Well....nearly 3 more inches of rain today. Guess it drove the worms out of the ground and this Hawk was having a feast.

The calls of the magpies alerted me to the presence of a hawk.
What a beautiful creature to look at, it eats insects, frogs & fruit. It jumps feet first in the tree canopy to disturb insects, a delight to watch.

Bird that visits our back yard in Yucaipa, California, USA. Approximately 14 inches tall, makes a repeated screech sort of high pitched call at times for a few minutes. Will land on the grass in the yard and hop around a bit, appearing to eat something like snails or worms, when it is raining...
