The broken-winged herring gull was pretty fearless. Maybe he knew he was in a bird sanctuary, but I think more likely he just had to be brave because he couldn't fly. Sanctuary or no, the dogs from the dog beach (and their owners!) ignored the signs and several let their dogs run off leash...
In winter there are seasonal crowdpleasers here like whooper swans, goldeneye, goosanders, tufties, dippers at the nearby rapids, and sometimes some interesting rare visitors, because the river below the falls and power plant is reliably open, relatively calm, and has plenty of food both...

One of the adult gulls had gone away for a bit of peace.
I actually found it difficult to get them all in this shot, as they kept moving about, and quite quickly too.
This youngster was making a heck of a racket stomping around, head lowered begging for food from the two adults.
Quite amusing to watch, as they both ignored him LOL.

... well that's what I call it when birds tap the ground with alternate feet; this one was doing just that in the large grassed area of the neighbouring sheltered housing complex.
It took me a few attempts to get a shot that wasn't over-exposed, think I just about got it with this one.
