For quite a long while I could observe a hoopoe taking his personal care...

Lovely birds, I find if you sit still long enough they do come closer.

One of three birds taking a dust bath on the road near A rocha,Alvor, then flying into a near bye field.

Just loved the sound these guys made and always heard them first before getting some pretty decent views. Saw at least 6 Hoopoes as we travelled around the S African part of the Kalahari and never lost the excitement of seeing them!

Another one of the comical looking character seen at the weekend.

A great addition to my gallery this bird. Strange looking and rather quirky, but still amusing to watch and try to photograph.

A great deal of care had to be taken approaching this bird but the result was worth it, in my opinion.

Taken in very poor light.

Found a pair in the gardens of the hotel I was staying in. Such a difficult bird to get close to!
