They were a good-sized flock and the males were quite the rainbow of head plumages - from yellow via orange and scarlet to magenta. This one was one of the brightest colored.
From my mother's garden. Watched the finches through the kitchen windows every morning at breakfast. West window - finches in the bare persimmon tree and the neighbors' bare plum. North window - finches (and towhees, and tits, and doves, and jays) at the feeder.

Even colder this morning so I took this male House Finch from my archives that was captured in our garden under sunny blue skies in the past.

At the feeder with this one there were also Pine Siskins and a Common Redpoll along with other Housefinches, Black-capped and Mountain Chickadees.
