.... well that took a long time to show you all my holiday pictures, didn't it LOL
So I finally got home in the middle of August and these guys were ready to greet me.

Salty's photo reminded me of this one on Lundy back in May. All the sparrows on the island are colour ringed and the population dynamics studied. Been going on for years I understand.
.... well pretending to be LOL
I've only seen them doing this a couple of times, but this is the first time I've managed to get a picture.
Presumably they're after insects in the wall crevices.
I tried to lighten the image, but it still looks a little dark to me.

Sorry folks. Been super-busy, and I still have two more papers I absolutely must finish by the end of next week. Must also bake pies for sister-in-law's 80th birthday party, plus various other appointments and tasks. But I will try to catch up on browsing tomorrow evening. Meanwhile, here are a...
This sparrow was hovering over a field to catch insects. The caption came to me because I'd just been watching the terns do this all morning, then saw this sparrow up the hill a ways when we went for our walk. Actually, I think sparrows have worked this technique out for themselves, although I...
Having turned the corner at the top of the headland we were now heading back down the other side.
We spotted a little brown blob fluttering over the grass behaving very like a flycatcher, so stopped for further investigation.
It turned out to be a female House Sparrow. I've never seen them...
.... another nest fledged. This time dad was on feeding duty. Seems he can only handle one at a time though, not the three that Mum had a week or so earlier LOL
Whether there was only one fledgling that time, or of the female had the others, I don't know.
Whatever, it's always lovely to see...
Continuing my walk round town, I came across this handsome male Sparrow. It really is lovely to know there's so many colonies of them.
This was trying to get against the sky settings right and it seemed to have worked for this one!!;)
What is the juvenile brown-headed cowbird shouting to the female house sparrow? "Step off, yo!" At least, I'm pretty sure it's a juvenile cowbird. It was a first-time backyard visitor and hasn't been spotted since.
The beginning of May saw my first youngsters of the season.
This mum House Sparrow arrived with three bairns and proceeded to feed them on the bits that I'd thrown out onto the shed roof.
A lovely moment to watch
