hudsonian whimbrel

Not as good as the shots I got last year when the light was perfect and both the beach and bird accessible, and taken the day after we got the news it had been lumped back in with whimbrel, but still a 2017 tick :-)

Cracking views of the very confiding Hudsonian Whimbrel at Perranuthnoe on Saturday morning, well worth the scramble across the rocks to get to it. It seems to have a problem with its left leg though. Not seen the red mark on previous shots

I have never managed to get anywhere near this species before. I found five yesterday morning feeding beside the road in a recently cut field. I had to shoot from the car, so not as low as I would have liked - I opened right up to try and blur the background as much as possible instead...
