I saw one of these at Minsmere yesterday,
I took about fifty shots before it disappeared, but not one of them was sharp
so I thought I would repost this one, taken in a friend's garden five years ago
This weekend I was reminded of the similar appearance of the Hummingbird Hawk-Moth (Macroglossum stellatarum) to the actual hummingbirds. They might strike as real hummingbirds! This resemblance is an example of convergent evolution. This Hawk-Moth was photographed in the Strait of Gibraltar...
This is an inflight capture of this moth on a butterfly bush in my mom's yard. I used the a 1/800 shutter speed and an aperture of 2.8. He was moving really, really fast, and I got extremely lucky with this shot.
